What We Do

Background

Founded in 2002 by a group of workers who felt a need to form an independent and non-political affiliated organization, Building, Wood & Allied Workers Union Of South Africa (BWAWUSA) is one of the fastest growing trade union.

Initially for the first couple of years after its inception, BWAWUSA mainly organized workers in the Building Sector around the Western Cape Province. The trend quickly evolved following demand by workers from various sectors. Today BWAWUSA is found in various sectors including in: Cement Manufacturing Industry, Cement Products Industry, Ceramic Industry, Heavy Clay & Allied Products Industry, Road Making Industry, Stone Crushing Industry, Woodworking Industry, Construction Industry, Building Suppliers, Security Industry, Domestic Sector, Farming & Agriculture, Food Processing Industry to quote a few.

Bargaining Council

BWAWUSA is the largest trade union in the Building Sector in the Western Cape Province. With over 45% of the organized industry labour, BWAWUSA is the majority trade union at the BIBC.
